COMMON THREADS is a communally animated embroidery project, dealing with the invention and evolution of writing.

Members of varying communities across the Middle East and beyond it are asked to embroider a letter in either its present day form, its corresponding drawing-sign origin in the world's first writing system, that of ancient Sumer, or one of the many inbetween versions of the letter.

All these frames together then become part of an animated short film of about 4 minutes, which can be screened both in educational settings and outside these.
